An app that combines Gmail, Drive and more
Google will again try to use a messaging app, although this time it will not be a competitor to WhatsApp, according to the information, Google is already testing a unique application that combines important services such as Gmail, Google Drive, Hangouts and Hangouts Meet.
Google's idea with this app is to use Gmail as an email and Hangouts client for messaging, while Hangouts Meet video calls will be. On the other hand, Drive will be necessary to share files over Gmail.
The app (still unnamed) is useful for business customers, i.e. for those who use G Suite, and Gmail and Drive in particular are among the services most used by these customers.
This explains why the company will use Hangouts Meet for video calls in this new application and not Google Duo, an application that Google has wanted to promote in recent years without much success.
The company obviously wants to compete against Slack and Microsoft Teams, two services that corporations widely use to organize their teams. In fact, the main competitor to this app appears to be Microsoft Teams.
Google's new app is undergoing testing by employees, so it appears that its launch may happen in the coming weeks.
